I redesigned Come Play's brand so that it would accurately represent female pleasure without running into stereotypical male gaze imagery. The goal was to make the site appealing to women. Using photo compositing techniques, I created ethereal imagery featuring female models who are happy, comfortable, and on a whole other metaphysical plane.

For the logo, we kept the symbol and updated the typography to a soft san serif. Wider tracking gives the logo breathing room and some sophistication.

To balance the rainbow pastel gradients used in the brand, we decided to give the website lots of white space in between images.

SHOKi is a line of drinks including non-infused, CBD, and THC versions. I redesigned the logo and worked with founder Tiffany Yarde to create the visual identity. SHOKi’s identity needed to communicate the brightness of the flavors and the physical impact of the drinks. Each flavor is represented with its own color, and a set of geometric patterns are often incorporated into backgrounds.

Creative Commons partnered with Author's Alliance needed an infographic to explain how Termination of Transfer works. The goal was to take a somewhat legally dense topic and make it easy to understand for artists who might benefit from the tool. I used colorful iconography to create graphics that cheerfully communicate the concept in a clear, concise way. Creative Commons requested a vertical and a horizontal version of the infographic to use in different contexts. The project was blogged about on sites like Boing Boing.

I created the Bootstrap to Millions site for Allison Medina, the founder of Tech Ladies. Allison wanted a fun modern brand with an eye-catching color palette and graphics.

With many individuals facing new obstacles to safe care during difficult pregnancies, the EWP community is needed now more than ever to support those going through a very difficult time. It was amazing to work on this project with the stalwart volunteers at EWP who have kept the site going for the past 20 years!

I designed the logo, redesigned the site and created the icon set that appears throughout.

As stated on their website, "Industry Lab is an artful co-working space in Inman Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are a curated community of artists, entrepreneurs and inventors who gather in mutual support to work, play and learn. Our space inhabits nearly 20,000 square feet of a lovely brick building with wood floors and lots of windows."

For their new logo, I wanted to capture the technology-as-play spirit of IL. The blocks that make up the I and the L imply shapes that can be taken apart and stacked. The shapes bring to mind toys, building, and the brick and mortar structure that is IL itself.

The simple black and white logos look great in high contrast, and the cubes absorb the look of any textured or colored background.

Created for Creative Commons to use at their 2018 State of the Commons conference. The photo collages were made using photos from the public domain, a tool available through Creative Commons itself.

For this project, Noam and Alaina wanted to avoid the default calligraphic typography of wedding invitations and go for something more personal and modern. They asked that the design reference the shore where the wedding would take place.

Through its palette and placement, this geometric design abstractly represents waves meeting the shore, the horizon line, and the ocean.

Have you ever had a bad day? Perhaps an incident caused some unwelcome thoughts to bubble up, and in order to bury those thoughts deep in the catacombs of your mind, you took to the internet and binged on cute baby animals? Animals are so fucking cute. Who needs thoughts that make you stare into the meaning of your existence and the value of your time which ticks away every second as you read this? I don't. All I need are adorable kittens and bunnies. (Cute animal fact: A baby bunny is actually called a kitten and we are all going to die one day.)

Created during my summer 2015 residency at Industry Lab which culminated in a solo show, Cute Animal Facts Dot Com was inspired by our tendency to avoid thoughts that might actually be helpful to consider. The silhouettes of cute animals in pastels offset the message hidden in the negative space. Each painting is titled with a corresponding cute animal fact, for instance "Seahorses Travel While Holding Each Other's Tails" and "A Group of Bunnies Is Called a Fluffle."

This book basically hasn't had a good cover since its initial release 100 years ago, which is a shame because Antonia is amazing. I wanted to play with the different aspects of her personality, the hard and the soft, so I chose to show her at work with a tool as she’s wont to be, and offset this with a very flowery design inspired by Czech folk patterns as a reference to Antonia’s Bohemian heritage.

A nod to both the restaurant and one character’s murder, the cast iron skillet is possibly the most important item in the story. It’s ubiquitous. Much like the women in the book, it is underestimated. The cover creates irony for readers: Those who haven’t read the book yet will see it and think, "Oh that’s nice, a skillet with pretty hand lettering, like on a cafe signboard." Those who’ve read the book will see it and think, "Oh that’s nice, a murder weapon with pretty hand lettering, like on a cafe signboard.

Berklee's Musican Handbooks feature black and white photo collage or iconography that sits in the center of a subdued color. The black and white graphics give them a modern-meets-retro feel.

Each image connects to the content of its handbook. The suitcase is made out of music marketing goals, the metronome floats away piece by piece in accordance with its rhythm, the lens of the camera shows a staff line, and the soundcloud rains down shapes that represent music patterns.
 
Also shown is a section from my favorite of the handbook interiors. For the Music Production Handbook, the idea was to create a balance between 6 different brands and the challenge was to include all the logos on the cover. I had fun creating the design of the internal pages and played with contrasting sizes. Each section is color coded according to the way it appears in the index.

Grub Street is a writing center located in the heart of Boston, and The Muse & the Marketplace is their annual writer's conference. I created this poster for Grub Street to promote their 2012 conference.

I used photo collage and color blocks to abstractly create a cityscape with the sky as a running list of names of writers, agents, and various literatti speaking at the conference. The negative space of the clouds interacts with the white border to create an interesting outline that also cuts down on print cost.

Alaina Ron's handpicked vintage clothing venture has very personal ties to Alaina herself, as is evident from the company name. Alaina explains on her website:

"When my grandmother immigrated from Greece people asked about her future plans. What did she want to be? How would she spend her time? 'I want to be a lady of lizard,' she would answer.

She meant, of course, a lady of leisure. But Yiayia was on to something.

Lady of Lizard is an evolving collection of vintage statement pieces. Classic, curated and contemporary clothing for a lifestyle of lizard."

We worked together to come up with a concept that would contain the whimsy of both the origin story and Alaina's curatorial style.

This book is a bit of a retelling of the Cinderella story, but with more crags in it.

For Berklee Onsite, an event where students from Berklee's online school come to the physical campus to meet educators, renowned musicians, and each other, I created a logo that combines two extremely familiar symbols: the Boston skyline and the keyboard. Berklee Onsite is where the physical and the digital meet, and I wanted the logo to represent both senses of place.

Since they are a writing center, I decided to play with how text interacts with design. For the 2011 poster I wanted to visualize what creative inspiration looks like to a writer. I took an androgynous head and placed letter forms shooting outward from the head in a burst of energy. This magnetism is also present in the organization of the messaging.

This graphic was created in response to a design contest from Evan Webster Ink as part of an internship application. Given the copy and a prompt, I made the image. It won and I was hired as an intern there. 

For their gala at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum, Grub Street wanted a strong reference to the location of the event. I used an image of an old 1930s car to create the graphic for the invite, and played with it's positioning and the typography to create a sense of motion.

To promote the release of Berklee College of Music's new online Bachelor's Degree programs, I designed images for a campaign that would incorporate Berklee Online's bold red with high contrast black and white photos.
